What is available uninstall?

Available uninstall is a new capability that was introduced in Microsoft Intune in the July 2023 service release (2307). It allows the end-user to uninstall Win32 applications that are no longer required from the company portal. Prior to this the end-user was forced to contact the helpdesk to accomplish this.

For win32 apps this is a configurable option that needs to be configured per application. By default the option to allow available uninstall is set to off.

RBAC permissions required to configure available uninstall

When using Custom Intune Roles for RBAC your existing permissions might need some modification before the Allow available uninstall option – shown in the screenshot above – becomes available. The existing permissions for Mobile Apps appear to be insufficient. To make the allow available uninstall option appear read permissions on Organization must also be given. This is shown in the screenshot below.

As soon as you add these permissions to the custom Intune role the option becomes available when opening the properties of an existing application, and also when creating a new application the option is there. Note that for the Application Manager built-in role these permissions are configured by default.

At the time of writing this post this is nowhere documented in the Microsoft Intune documentation so hopefully this helps save you some time.
